August

1st - Edinburgh   Preview - Benjamin   Crellin

Picture
Benjamin Crellin, in his final preview before the 2012 Fringe starts on Friday, explores the world with an irreverence that is refreshing even in comedy.

'Stands to Reason' is a no-holds-barred look at the world we live in and the moral dimensions we inhabit. Crellin's 2011 Edinburgh show was listed in the top 20 free fringe shows to see and received four and five star reviews:

"Crellin's solo show is a shotgun blast through a world full of ignorance...see him or I will hurt you" - Three Weeks, Edinburgh 2011 (5 stars)

In 2003 Benjamin Crellin won The Billy T Award (New Zealand’s most prestigious comedy award recognizing New Zealand comedians with outstanding potential) a fourt time and number of times a comedian could be nominated was forced to be capped at four. It was notable because he criticised major a New Zealand arts funding body for their choices during his set. One member of the Judging panel was part of said funding body.

Benjamin Crellin, is considered the black sheep of New Zealand comedy. Benjamin makes heavy use of irony and satire. He featured regularly in the Kiwi comedy circuit prior to his move to the UK. He has previously toured Canada, South Africa and Australia, working almost every major club in all of these countries!

With special guest MC Jack Kane...

8 - Not-so-new  Act  Night

With special guest MC Robert White!

Plus...

Gatis Kandis
Andy Storey
Johnny Kats
Kate Weston

Don Biswas

You might remember Gatis from 'Britain's Got Talent' - Simon Cowell daubed him with the title 'the funniest unfunny comedy ever', which I think was unfair. Gatis has great material and a surreal performance that's really worth seeing! Catch him now before he's properly famous.

(£3-5 suggested - all door money goes to the performers, many of which are professional comedians trying out new material)

Robert  White

Since he first came onto the stand-up scene, as a finalist in the prestigious Hackney Empire competition, Robert has gone from strength to strength, and in 2010 won the Malcolm Hardee main award at the Edinburgh Festival.

‘Get him on Shooting Stars - Robert White’s show is a jaw-dropping riot. ..... the mix of lewd innuendo, cheesy jokes, music hall songs played on a knackered keyboard and sound-effects games makes for a side-splitting hour.’ The List - Four stars ****

‘Delivering a mixture of stand up, songs, props and audience interaction, Robert White tries hard - and spectacularly succeeds ..... never seems to fail to provoke laughter’ Three weeks - Four stars ****
